LNG – A Foundation for Vietnam’s Green Industrial Transition

29/09/2025

Under the pressure of climate change and the commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2050, the adoption of clean energy has become an essential trend. Among the available solutions, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) stands out as a viable transitional fuel—helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable development.

LNG – Clean, Efficient, and Flexible Fuel

LNG is natural gas cooled to -162°C, significantly reducing its volume and making it easier to transport. With methane as its primary component, LNG burns cleanly, producing virtually no particulate matter, sulfur oxides (SOx), or nitrogen oxides (NOx)—delivering clear environmental and health benefits.

LNG Applications Across Industries

LNG is increasingly used in power generation, heavy industries (such as steel and cement), chemical manufacturing, and transportation. Compared to coal or oil, LNG significantly reduces emissions and improves energy efficiency—meeting the growing demand for cleaner industrial operations.

LNG – A Bridge to Renewable Energy

LNG serves as a medium-term solution supporting the transition to renewable energy. According to Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII, the country will invest heavily in LNG-to-power projects between 2025 and 2030, gradually phasing out coal-fired power and moving toward a more sustainable energy future.
